If's, 200 years from now...

oh, please. I'll take cataclysm in the plural over singular

any-day

If's, 200 months from now

If, 200 weeks from now

if, 200 days from now

I was in Baja, petting calf suckling whales

best finish painting these houses before the stout brave courageous

rebuilding new orleanians...

If, 200 hours from now

the van's still running - on three cylinders, its 93 degree's, that's 7 days

work enough to send film to the lab and recombine my pictures into what

I thought I saw - that hour, of work at my leisure, involving a long clear table,

scotch tape, and joinery - is absorbing and satisfying in its simplicity and

reward - visual chronicle - the camera's reducing power used in resolution

of my time and place not dot com - hand made

If, probably, 200 minutes from now, watching at the grocery store

kindly queen of the rubber fatigue-mat Save-A-Lot! cash register-ess

renders a ben franklin from my precious dwindling gang of 8, now seven

I meant to get out of there for less'n'40

71, with my discount card, sort of like watching a noose

tighten - "tallest thing I climb's a bar-stool"

said the bricklayer, knee's to the ground, recalling

a three story fall 15 years ago

"saw my life pass before my eyes"

we were discussing the work I was doing

scaffold plus ladder =

those kneepads of his / definition of grounded

I heart creole shotgun houses

one story, for one - ben franklin's an A.J and change now

the things I'd do and how fast, in 200 seconds or less

if the denominator 7th president could take it personally

Thanks to my

Jose F. Reyes was the dumper of at least one million bloated bottles
of fermented juice at the Odwalla Warehouse in San Francisco
for the years 1994-96. Standing at a crude stainless steel sink on a
cement floor and manually de-capping each bottle to recycle the plastic, surrounded by pallets stacked with crates full of oozing, smelly and exploding pints of juice: rivulets of carrot slime moving slow as magma to merge with syrup streams of Ambrosia, Blueberry Fruit Shake, Mango Tango, Orange Juice, and the green of the mighty Spirulina drink; some days such a volume it wormed out of the warehouse, through the parking lot to drip into the gutter and fill the drain on Beacon Street in South City.

Young Ryan Brindle is merely a natural
tough wiry squinting whippet from Ohio
Speech reserved for what is essential

- Anything that grows ought to be legal

Economical about everything, eagle eyed for one stone
two bird propositions one morning silently clearing his throat
and gobbing a pigeon, easy, from 10 paces because

- It was about time something like that happened

I see him as the dire cynical corporal from war movies
a devout made in the usa harm removing machine
and squad savior routinely, but do not mention
the contemptible buddy wasting captain, its his job
delivering merchandise refrigerators to supermarkets
work just bad enough they give us trucks to drive home
so we'll come back for more
piped in soft rock pathetic songs
that deliver all of us to the fried things
even me and Ryan who have seen and smelled up close
the tallow trucks and men in manager pants with bitter
ruined in the late 20th century food chain store faces

My name for the warehouse manager - and sociopath tormentor
of Jose F. Reyes, the Odwalla Juice Dumper - was El Dolto.
It always looked like, turning a corner to encounter him, he'd just
finished furtively munching a bite sized rodent - I sensed the waft
of a reflexive wipe of red dribbles off his chin - but not the malign
idiot grin, unable to suppress its giggle.

Anyplace the Alamo is three blocks
from the bus stops alright by me
In San Antonio Harry give me a job
working on billboards and some advice

You don't want to do that Son

Moving the house you get cut in two
what good then is five dollar an hour gong to do

Up on the roof you start to slide

Mudjackin the house slips and you get crushed
that 10 buck an hour don't add up to much

Lookin for a job you got to keep watch

Jordan Davis Poem 913

Things I do on the Side by Archemephelon / aka ROBERT SEVEN

Jimmys on the back porch swingin on the swing
Mommas in the kitchen makin bread
I'm in the closet with a ball of string
Just trying to get it wrapped around my head

Leave me alone I'm in my own home
Don't you call knock or ask me why
I do the things I do
I do what you do too
These are the things I do on the side

Billys in the garden pullin up weeds
Sisters in the john she's gotta pee
I'm out on the front lawn naked as a bird
Just waving at everybody I see
So leave me alone I'm in my own home...

Well babys in the playpen going goo goo goo
Uncle Joes passed out in his chair
I'm up in the attic with a jar of pickled eggs
Rollin around everywhere

Turned on my tv saw people lobbing bombs
Thought I might just lob me one too
So I crawled out my window
in a pretty summer dress
and I lobbed that old tv off the roof

Leave me alone, I'm in my own home...
